Wine tour of Italy: Tastes of Sicily & Campania | Thurs May 23

Tasting & Food Pairing Night in Collab with The Wine Sisters

$130.00 per ticket

About this experience

Tasting events are back here at Cucinato and we're excited to take you on a tour of the country's best wines and wine-making regions!

With summer just around the corner, what better place to start than sunny Southern Italy? Tonight we'll be sampling classic varietals from two of the great "Meridionale" grape growing regions: Sicily and Campania. The Greeks, Romans and Byzantines all produced wines in this part of the peninsula long before the founding of modern Italy, so it's hardly surprising that some of the country's best wines come from here!

Your hosts for this evening will be Cucinato's Gaia Massai (a Tuscan wine producer in her own right), in collaboration with Erin Henderson, chief sommelier and founder of the Toronto-based wine event company, The Wine Sisters!

Gaia will introduce the regions and food pairings throughout the evening, giving some interesting historical and cultural context, and Erin will give you a deeper dive into each of the classic varietals and producers she's chosen to spotlight this evening.

Limoncello Basil Spritz
Welcome drink on arrival

Falinghina DOC (Campania)
Campania's most celebrated white: zesty, tropical, waxy - a great summer wine!

Grillo DOC (Sicily)
From the southwest part of the island, Sicily's signature white: crisp, balanced and inviting

Tornatore Frappato (Sicily)
Silky, bright red from the volcanic soils of Mt Etna

Donnafugata Nero D'Avola (Sicily)
Rich, robust red from the celebrated 4th generation wine producing family, Donnafugata

Aglianico (Campania)
Tannic, dense, rich, full bodied - one of Italy's finest varietals and the signature red of the Campania and Basilicata wine producing regions

Frittelle di zucchini e menta - Zucchini fritters with mint (Sicily)

Pizza fritta - Two varieties of fried pizza: tomato basil, and ricotta-salami (Campania)

Involtini di melanzane - Eggplant rolls with mozzarella and herbs (Sicily)

Couscous alla trapanese - Couscous with mixed seafood, almonds and spice (Sicily)

Pecorino canastrato e salame - Sicilian sheep's milk cheese and traditional salami, served with homemade crostini

The food parings we serve to accompany the wines are moderate in size, so you can consider it a 5-part, tapas style meal served over approximately 2 hours.
