Join us for a special 5-course meal with wine pairings hosted by our friend Irene Matys!

If you follow Irene on the Marilyn Denis Show or Instagram, or have seen her beautiful recipes and food photography in publications Food & Drink or Best Side Magazine, you'll know she's as passionate about sharing the cuisine of her native Cyprus as she is about supporting local food producers here in Southern Ontario.

During this intimate, interactive event Irene will share the story of each dish she has created for the meal, as well as her own personal journey - coming from a farming and olive oil producing family in Cyprus; fleeing to Canada as a refugee in 1970s; growing up to become a passionate farm-to-table advocate here in Ontario, working with artisanal producers like Plan B Organics Farm and Florence Meats who will provide many of the fresh, locally sourced ingredients featured in tonight's meal. 

For the wine pairing portion of the dinner, Irene is teaming up with Joy MacDonald of Kolonaki Wines & Spirits, a local agency who recently began importing a variety of fine wines from Cyprus. Joy has selected five great wines for tonight's meal - one for each course - and she'll be joining us to pour and explain each varietal during the meal .

First Course 

Elies Tsakistes (Cracked Green Olives with Lemon, Garlic and Cracked Coriander); Tashi (Garlicky lemon tahini dip); Warm Greek pitas

Wine pairing - Zambartas Promara

Second Course 

Irene's homemade halloumi, baked with sesame and thyme

Wine pairing - Keo Xinesteri

Third Course

Beet and Olive Bread Panzanella Salad with a Caper Vinaigrette (Pickled Beets, butter beans, cucumber, red onion, homemade olive bread croutons, fresh Italian flat leaf parsley)

Wine pairing - Tsiakkas Mouklos (light red, slightly chilled)

Fourth Course

Lamb Tava
Slow baked lamb, rice, tomato and onions with aromatics of cumin and cinnamon


Vegetarian Tava
Slow baked peppers, tomato and onions with aromatics of cumin and cinnamon

Wine pairing - AES Ambelis Maratheftiko

Fifth Course 

Rhubarb Bougatsa
Ontario rhubarb commandaria preserve in a semolina and orange blossom custard wrapped in crispy golden phyllo with an icing sugar dust

Is this a cooking class? No, it's a sit-down meal. Although it will be intimate and interactive like all our events! 

Are the wine pairings included with the price of the dinner ticket? Yes. 

Will there be other (including non alcoholic) drinks available for purchase? Yes
