ABOUT THE CHRISTMAS FEAST IN ITALY

The Italian Christmas Dinner is really two traditions in one.

On Christmas Eve we celebrate La Vigilia di Natale, observing the Christian belief in abstinence in true Italian style - with a 4-course seafood feast! The idea of restraint is implied in the fact that no meat is served.

The Christmas Day meal on the other hand usually features meat dishes (most typically lamb) and often occurs in the middle of the day rather than the evening.

For Cucinato's Italian Holiday Dinner this year we have combined these two traditions in a single menu you can customize to your liking. Whether you want seafood, meat, vegetarian, or a little of all three, there's something here for everyone.

HOW OUR HOLIDAY MENU WORKS

  2. We will email you to confirm menu selections and date for delivery or pick-up.
  3. Dates you can choose from are: Dec 16-20; Dec 23-24
  4. All dishes made from scratch and delivered with easy-to-follow reheating instructions

Focaccia barese - Bari’s favourite street food: tomato and herb focaccia 

Focaccia alle erbe - Classic focaccia bianca: herbs, sea salt, e basta!


ANTIPASTI (CHOOSE 2 OPTIONS)

Insalata di mare (seafood salad) - A refreshing mix of seasonal seafoods topped tossed in a tangy citronette. 

Trota marinata ("Gravlax") con rucola - Beetroot and citrus-cured trout carpaccio with arugula 

Involtini di pollo con prosciutto e formaggio - Chicken fillets, pan cooked in wine and herbs, stuffed with prosciutto and cheese

Polenta al Ragù - Oven-baked polenta topped with slow-cooked beef ragù

Barchette ricotta e funghi - Mini sfoglia (puff pastry) tarts with ricotta and mushroom 

Parmigiana di verdure - Winter vegetables baked parmigiana-style with layers of fresh 
mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano and herbs

Tortellini in brodo - One of Italy’s most iconic pasta dishes, traditionally served at Christmas time: homemade tortellini pasta, stuffed with minced pork, prosciutto, mortadella, parmigiano and nutmeg served in a delicate capon broth

Risotto alla pescatora - Fisherman’s style seafood risotto 

Bigoli alle vongole e zucchine - A little twist on a Neapolitan Christmas classic: homemade bigoli (rustic spaghetti) with clams and zucchini. 

Gnocchi al ragù d'agnello - Homemade gnocchi tossed in slow-cooked lamb ragù

Gnocchetti al ragù di polpo - Our delicious housemade gnocchi tossed in mouthwatering octopus ragù

(Vegetarian) Cannelloni ricotta e spinaci - Fresh pasta stuffed with ricotta and spinach, served in our house-made sugo di pomodoro 


SECONDO (CHOOSE 1 OPTION) 

Abbacchio alla romana - A classic Roman dish often served on Christmas Day: braised, lightly battered lamb chops, cooked in wine and herbs

Gallina agli agrumi - Slow roasted Cornish hen stuffed with a blend of orange, lemon, breadcrumbs and herbs that enhance the succulent flavour of this dish.

Vitello arrosto (Rosa di Parma) - (Parma-Style Roast Veal) - Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma wrapped in butterfly cut veal, roasted in wine, herbs and broth

Baccalà alla vicentina - Vicenza-style codfish slowly simmered in creamy garlic, onions and anchovy sauce. 

Orata al sale - Super tender and moist, whole orata oven baked in sea salt and herbs. 

Gigliata di pesce - Mixed grilled, marinated fish and seafood 

(Vegetarian) Torta salata di verdure - Savoury winter vegetable pie

Roasted Brussels Sprouts With Chestnut & Pancetta - Chestnuts are the quintessential Fall/Winter ingredient in Northern Italian cooking. For this hearty, delicious dish, they elevate the roasted Brussel sprouts, pancetta and Parmigiano to the next level!

Gateau di patate con asparagi - Traditional potato "cake" made with eggs, cheese, asparagus and herbs. 

Insalata verde con Vinaigrette al Melograno - Mixed green salad with apple, cucumber, balsamic reduction seasonal pomegranate vinaigrette 

Insalata di Finocchio con Arance, Rucola, Olive e Radicchio - A classic Sicilian winter salad: fennel, orange, radicchio, arugula and olive
